This week, I’ve got your golden ticket to a splendid afternoon (or evening). Recommended to me by a budtender at Stash Pot Shop (in Ballard), I bring you Golden OG from Emerald Jane’s. I picked up a gram for $17.50, which would normally be a little pricey if I didn’t already know how good the Washington producer’s herb was.
Emerald Jane’s is a local favorite. I’ve heard countless weed fanatics praise them, and our past experience reviewing them was supremely positive. According to the website, EJ’s marijuana is grown using the best possible methods, regardless of the extra effort that rustic traditions incur; reflecting a deep devotion for process, product, and experience. “Every plant, every day” is their motto.
Touching on the packaging, I really enjoy the concept of putting a succinct description to go along with your weed: Golden OG is a Sativa dominant strain that’s a cross of Golden Ticket and Jesus OG. Cracking open a bud gives you a very sweet fruity aroma. Inhaling the smooth smoke leaves you with a clear head as well as relaxed body. They really hit all the high notes, I could just peace out now if I wanted…
But that’s not gonna happen, so let’s dig into the Specifics:
THC: 21.2% CBD: 0.06%
Total: 22.1%
Strain: Golden OG
Species: Hybrid (Sativa Dominant)
Harvested: 11/27/15 (yikes!)
Smell: Citrus + Bubblegum
Taste: Sweet + Mowed Grass
Launch Point: Creeper! (In a good way)
High: Uplifting + Body Vibe + Phosphenes + Groovy
Emerald Jane’s already gave us the lineage with the packaging description (detailed above), so there’s not much to talk about in terms of fun facts. When I googled Golden OG, I couldn’t find any specifics – but the clear and present result seemed to be pointing towards a similar strain known as Cali Gold. It’s probably just a coincidence, that being said I’m unofficially henceforth nicknaming this bud Washington Gold.
For being over 5 months past harvest date, Golden OG looks good; a sun stained bright yellowish-orange, lots of trichomes. In the smokability department: it wasn’t super harsh, but probably smoother in it’s youth.
There is a definite sweetness to this bud, on all fronts. For me, I picked up a bubblegum-esque synthetic thing goin’ after snapping a bud apart. The taste was like mowed grass and sugar, but obviously set on fire. It always sounds so good when I write it out, but honestly sometimes I wonder if it’s a game of convincing myself of these flavors and scents. It smells like weed. Happy?
In terms of getting high, it’s what you want it to be. A clean, feel good kinda vibe. I honestly found the description to be underselling the definite cerebral presence. With Golden OG, you could go out and hike a mountain, or hit up your local favorite brewery with your friends, or get some work done on any kind of project, or simply veg out in front of the TV. There is a tiny bit of burnout present, but roll with it and you’ll soldier through stronger then ever.
You can find Emerald Jane’s products Dockside Cannabis (SODO), Hashtag (Fremont), and Stash (Ballard + Lake City) – among others.
