A large, 2 story, downtown Seattle bookstore has a table display showcasing their collection of books about marijuana. There are books about growing cannabis, weed history books, cookbook, magazines and more. The associate who showed us the display explained ‘now that its’ legal, we have a table of marijuana books.’
The display didn’t catch us by surprise. After all, marijuana in Seattle is SO yesterday. But, we were a little surprised to see the cannabis book display in close proximity to the children’s section. Only because we thought the bookstore – especially one that is mainstream – would make a conscience effort to keep the display away from the vicinity of kids. Like the books about moonshine and sex, which are located on the other side of the store. Guess we thought wrong!
But is this Okay, or NOT okay? This is where the lines of something that is still taboo to some people can get blurry. Even really blurry. Some may argue that it’s okay since marijuana is not the big bad drug everyone used to make it out to be, or keeping kids too sheltered may not be in the best interest of their development; and some may argue that it’s not okay because how they view marijuana, or because of their beliefs.
What do you think? Do you think this is okay and no big deal, or is this IS a big deal and needs to be dealt with accordingly?
