List of 7 Seattle Marijuana Celebrities, Rock Stars, Icons & Businessmen Seattle recreational marijuana source

Here is a list of 7 icons, rock stars, and celebrities, affiliated – in some way – with the city of Seattle and the plant we have all grown to love: marijuana. Our list is made up of people from the past as well as the present. That’s not our only requirements, though. They had to be a little more than a closet toker, or have an unconfirmed affiliation with weed…sorry Bill Gates. We’re not exactly sure how they all went about accessing their weed, for example if they used it for medical purposes or if they grew their own using organic hydroponics, which is all the rage at the moment, we just know that they played big roles in helping it to become the cultural phenomenon it is today.

Although Jimi’s song “Purple Haze” is not exactly about cannabis, there is a strain of marijuana named after it, which signifies the power of association that people have with the former rock genius and cannabis. Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl did not shy away from the topic of marijuana or promoting its use. They seemed to frequently leave evidence of their marijuana adventures. Most notably, the following video. Less notably, they recorded a song called “Moist Vagina”. According to the lyrics, it seems to be about marijuana and sex.

4. Eddie Vedder – Frontman of rock mega-group Pearl Jam

Last December, while Pearl Jam jammed a 3+ hour set at the Key Arena, Eddie Vedder took a moment and expressed his thoughts about the legalization of marijuana and gay marriage in Washington State, claiming it put the state on the “right side of history.” In the past, Vedder has generally been open about smoking pot and has spoken about the herb in a positive manner.

3. Macklemore – Grammy award winning hip hop artist

While Kurt, and Eddie openly talked about marijuana, enjoyed it, or even sung about it, Macklemore has actually rapped about it and made the meaning of his lyrics quite obvious. In the song “Tommy Chong,” by local Seattle hip hop duo Blue Scholars, Macklemore makes a guest appearance and gives his 2 cents. It appears that, in these lyrics, he is ‘not against legalization – but against glorification’ He concludes that ‘moderation is key.’

I went to that Bob Marley stage, that ganja ganja
That one love brah, it’s a medicine that makes you stronger
Equated to me chilling, isolated in my apartment
Blazing an eighth a day and playing Grand Theft Auto
Like “Damn, I’m way more creative”
Twenty minutes later, staring at the paper
Yeah, and 4/20, it was all about the love
Now it’s 4:31 and I’m paranoid as fuck
Like “who are these hippies, and where are my real friends?
Why are you playing hacky sack in a field, Ben?
You need visine, your eyes are real red
Wiz Khalifa’s gonna fuck your girlfriend”
I’m not against legalization, not at all
I’m against glorification, you are not Snoop Dogg
Moderation, that’s the key
But the door’s unlocked
It’s up to you how you use it
Make the call, c’mon
