I had always thought of hash as a tool to lighten dreary days, or add an extra layer of blur to the night’s fixings. Truth be told, I haven’t encountered much hash in the recreational market at all – but also I haven’t been seeking it out. Along comes Green Barn Farms with several different concentrated strains for me to try, and wouldn’t you know it – I’m sitting in the sun and this high is sublime.
Back up a second, the specific hash we are talking about today is Blueberry Kush – an indica hybrid. It is one of three strains that Green Barn Farms gave to us for sampling purposes*, and in the following weeks you will see those crop up one way or another.
Green Barn Farms is a sun grown, organic operation. They have a focus on environmental practices, sustainability, and utilize old world methods to grow and harvest marijuana (in various forms).
They have their soil tested and approved through Clean Green, a California based company that specializes in helping marijuana farmers get a true organic certification. Essentially this provides a way to regulate producers, so look for the “Clean Green” badge if organic marijuana is important to you. Going forward with recreational weed in Washington (and soon the rest of the country), I’m certain the topic of organic-approved will become more present.
Let’s talk some hash Specifics:

Okay so, I’m no expert in hash. Let’s make that clear. I asked several veteran potheads how they would discern “good quality hash”, and what they told me is my basis (I also did some googling).
The color of this concentrated Blueberry Kush is of a golden-dark-emerald green. It’s a mysterious and becoming combo, but just looking at that lump in various lights yields a mosaic of color. It’s kind of like that scene in Daredevil where Wilson Fisk looks into the blank white painting for hours, with the song and everything, and yeah – if you’ve seen it, you get what I mean.
Using a primitive tool, I chunked off a tiny rectangle. I was told to “roll it in my fingers” to warm the hash up, but it’s clear that one shouldn’t roll too hard or else it crumbles a little bit (baby steps). There was not an overwhelming funky stench, just a tiny hint along with a touch of hay.
Hash, to me, has an almost resin like taste. The concentrated kief has a powerful gasoline-like flavor, and a little berry in there too. I sandwiched the petit pancake between a small bit of flower, but I believe the overarching flavor was hash.
Blueberry Kush burns quickly and efficiently alongside the flower. I’m easily able to take down the entire ember in one toke, but then again I’ve got rasta lungs.
The high is strong, a body-centric wave of euphoria and relaxation in tow. As I said in the opening paragraph, I never realized hash could lend itself so stunningly to a sunny day. The feeling lasts for a good while, longer then traditional flower highs. I’d recommend having a plan for your afternoon, if nothing other then to venture out into the world.
