When one doesn’t have many options when it comes to places to go and buy marijuana legally, or only has one option, then we humans will sometimes go anywhere we can to get a hold of the green. Especially, when enjoying a scorching beautiful summer! So, let’s recap all of the places where recreational weed in Seattle is bought – legally, illegally, or grey area-lly.
Cannabis City
The only true legal option is to make a purchase at the historic Seattle weed store, Cannabis City, located in the SODO/Industrial District. The problem is, they don’t always have cannabis on hand because the limited number of I-502 licensed producers are struggling to keep up with demand. And when they do, the quality of cannabis is sometimes hit and miss (see this marijuana review). This is not the pot shop’s fault, however, as they are doing the best with what they have to work with – which is not much at all. Long lines with wait times up to an hour long aren’t exactly fun either. Again, not the pot shop’s fault.
Status: Legal for buyer and seller under Washington State Marijuana Regulation
Side of the Building at Cannabis City
Speaking of long lines, we have witnessed black market dealers taking advantage of the brutally long wait times at Cannabis City, by selling baggies of weed to those who just can’t stand another minute waiting. We all know this isn’t legal, but to some “entrepreneurs,” it seems to be worth the risk.
Status: Illegal to sell cannabis without a retail license.
Outside Apartment or House
Even though the famous Seattle marijuana delivery service Winterlife Cooperative jumped ship to serve medical marijuana patients only, there are still some delivery services like Club raccoons who cater to adults over the age of 21. Just like pizza, Seattle weed lovers have been enjoying cannabis delivered to their door for some time now. We don’t know if this is considered grey-area, black market, or what anymore – we just know it’s happening. We do know they are not licensed by the state, but if some people have their way, this could change.
Status: Illegal or Grey-area. One of the two.
Ex-girlfriend’s Apartment
With prices sky high for legal recreational marijuana, it’s sometimes tough to afford that luxury when one is on a budget. We know of a guy who takes a walk over to his ex-girlfriend’s house once a month to get some green. Not only did she break up with him but she charges him for it! Awkward. And talk about eating your pride! At least he gets a discounted price. That’s worth something, right?
Status: “Sympathetically” Illegal
Sidewalk, Alley, Living Room
With only one Seattle weed store, and its’ location not convenient for all of Seattle, there are still quite a few people who take to the black market. Whether it is a dealer on the street or behind a dumpster in an alley, a friend of a friend, or just a friend, either way Seattlelites are getting hooked up! Cheaper weed prices on the black market are another reason why those looking for weed in Seattle are going this route. For example, according to this article, some residents of Ballard still resort to the black market.
